Hello, I am Dr David Horan or “Dr Dave”, for short.
I really love my job as you and your pet’s local vet. Through my House Call service you can access the full range of modern, up-to-date Veterinary Products Services from the comfort of your own home.
I have in fact been a Veterinary Surgeon for over 25 years and I have been pioneered a Mobile House Call practice over 18 years ago.
I was part of many and varied veterinary practices around the Greater Sydney area early in my career, but I discovered that I preferred to concentrate on individual pets and their devoted owners in their own home, so I set up one of the very first House Call Practices in the Sydney region “Mountains Mobile Vet” back in 1996.
Over the last eighteen years I have chosen to work as a Locum Vet in Sydney and all around the country. This has afforded me the opportunity to learn from some of the best and most experienced veterinary practitioners in the Sydney/NSW region as well as from other areas around this wonderful country of ours.
I also worked for several years in Veterinary Emergency Practice at the NWAEC (North West Animal Emergency Centre) at Baulkham Hills – now part of ARH (Animal Referral Hospital).
In addition to my work in Sydney, I have had a full and varied career around the globe. I worked for the UK Government (DEFRA) as a Veterinary Officer during the 2001-2002 Foot and Mouth Exotic Disease outbreak as well as the NSW Government during the 2007-8 Equine Influenza Outbreak. In addition I have worked in private practices in March in Cambridgeshire UK and in Jo’berg South Africa.
Next year I am planning to spend some time working with Vets Beyond Borders undertaking veterinary relief work in the Pacific region – Vanuatu – Vaccinating and Desexing the local Canine and Feline populations.
For much of the last three decades I have been involved in Veterinary and VN education. I have lectured to Veterinary Nurses and Animal Technicians around the state with NSW TAFE. I even set up the VN and Animal Care training Centre at Richmond College and I was selected in 1995 to go to the UK on a TAFE Project Fellowship to study the new CPD training system for VNs prior to its’ introduction into NSW.
I have maintained my interest in education and I am currently studying for my Masters Degree in Veterinary Education along with undertaking intensive training in Veterinary Acupuncture.
Developing and building Veterinary and general Animal Care smartphone Apps, and running training courses are two of my current professional interests.
Away from Veterinary work and Education I enjoy SCUBA diving, skiing, travelling around the globe and spending time with my family and pet spaniel “Copernicus”.
